Green Travel

By supporting motorcoach transportation, which is the most fuel-efficient way to travel, you might just help save an ice cap or two.

The American Bus Association and the motorcoach industry is doing its part to stop habitats from melting away. When you go by motorcoach, you go green. Whether running on various blends of ultra-low sulfur or biodiesel fuel, motorcoaches are part of America's energy solution.

Today's motorcoach is a model of environmental stewardship. On a per passenger basis, motorcoaches have superior passenger fuel efficiency compared to all other transportation sectors.

Efficiency Facts
Motorcoaches currently provide 206.6 passenger miles per gallon (MPG), more than double the second most fuel-efficient sector, commuter rail at 92.4 passenger MPG. Transit buses achieve 31.4 passenger MPG, domestic air carriers achieve 44 passenger MPG, and single passenger automobiles achieve 27.2 passenger MPG.
Each motorcoach has the potential of removing 55 autos from the highway. That's millions of cars not driven, saving fuel, cutting emissions and reducing congestion.

What About Biodiesel?
Biodiesel is a blend of conventional diesel fuel and blendstocks made from fatty substances such as soybean oil and waste cooking oil. Most diesel vehicles can use biodiesel fuel at up to 5 percent concentrations (B5) without modifying the vehicle’s fuel system and powertrain, and some diesels are modified to use higher concentrations, such as 20 percent or 100 percent (B20 and B100). One important benefit of biodiesel is that it adds needed lubricity to diesel fuel. All diesel engines, especially advanced common rail diesel engines, operate at extremely high pressures and require good lubricity in the fuel to prevent wear. It is also critical that any biodiesel fuel meet certain specifications to ensure that it will work properly in today’s sophisticated motorcoach engines. All motorcoaches require good quality fuel to minimize emissions and optimize engine performance.

Green travel is defined under many different headings from thinking about the impact to the environment (both physical and social environment) when you travel to understanding how you can make a change to reduce this impact. In the world we live in today where everything is becoming "Green", its is also very important that our travel is green too. Out actions have a direct affect on the environment. Rise in private car numbers have led to increases in carbon emissions which are the leading cause of The Green House Effect. But there are simple steps that can be taken to have Green travel. Some of these steps are:

  • Use of bicycles and public transport over private cars
  • Packing lighter when travelling on public transport
  • Use of carpools when available
  • Use of bio diesel-which has lower emmissions
Energy Efficient Travel
According to the American Bus Association, the motorcoach gets 184 passenger miles per gallon, more than double the second most fuel-efficient sector, commuter rail at 86 passenger MPG. However environmnetla conservation doesnt rely soley on fuel. It also depends on the extra weight associated with the mode of transport. So anything that can be left off should be left of. This will help to increse the miles per gallon and help the environmnet at the same time.
Green AND Comfortable!
Its not too hard to travel Green. You don't have to lose your creature comforts in favour of more environmentally friendly methods of travel. The environment and all that goes with it, the trees, the animals, the lakes, the rivers, the sky, the clouds all of it is affected by human activities so it is up to us to make sure that we look after it.
Taking Cars off The Road!
Motor Coaches are a very efficient form of transport and are also Green Transport. Did you know that a single motor coach can displace as many as 56 passenger cars from crowded roads and motorways?
