Lamers Bus Lines is now hiring an office assistant for the school bus department. The School Bus Office Assistant will assist the terminal manager in coordinating the day-to-day operations of the school bus terminal. Work will take place normally in an office setting, with a variety of office duties, and school bus route driving will be required. Excellent communication and organization skills are required, with detail/accuracy a must. Extensive telephone usage and data entry will occur. Great personality and customer service skills are needed for this position. Obtaining and maintaining a CDL will be required. In-house training is provided to acquire the CDL and endorsements. Hours are approx. 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with an hour lunch.
Job Requirements
- Knowledge of student transportation or commercial transportation operations is required.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills required. Must be detail-oriented.
- Conditional job offer: Must obtain a Class B CDL with both P and S endorsements. Lamers provides in-house training. Will have to drive company vehicles as needed. Job offer conditioned upon being able to pass the DOT physical.
- Computer experience in a business or education environment is important.
Job Duties:
- Coordinate drivers and buses on routes. Keep routes/and operations operating smoothly.
- Accurately place all students on school bus routes.
- Collaborate with school districts to arrange transportation for charters. Assign drivers to trips
- Communicate with drivers on daily basis. Provide route and charter information and maintain a good relationship with drivers.
- Maintain accurate dispatch records for payroll purposes. Enter data into computer.
- Assist and collaborate with area terminals to cover routes and trips.
- Check in drivers and work with two-way radio during route times and throughout the day. Relay messages to drivers and handle concerns
- Answer incoming calls. Handle if able to, or direct to correct department.
- Fill in on school routes and/or charter trips as necessary as a school bus driver.
- Provide assistance to other staff members if needed.
- Weekend duty rotation with other office staff may occur.
