Off we go to a scenic and untamed vacation to South Dakota. Our travels take us through Wisconsin and across Minnesota to Sioux Falls, SD for our first overnight at the Hampton Inn.

This morning, experience the famous Mitchell Corn Palace. Every year the palace is covered with corn cobs arranged in amazing new designs and outlined with grasses and grains. The afternoon is filled with a scenic sojourn to Badlands National Park. This area is noted for its sharply eroded buttes and pinnacles framed against an expansive sky. This evening, check into your accommodations in Hill City, SD for an unhurried stay. After we’re settled in, we take a ride to nearby Mount Rushmore for an inspiring evening illumination of this awesome monument. For the next three nights we’re guests of the Baymont Inn & Suites in Keystone, SD.

Our day starts with a visit to the Crazy Horse Memorial to witness the unbelievable skills and tenacity required to carve a mountain. Lunch will be included here at Laughing Waters before our ride on the 1880 Black Hills Central Railroad steam engine train that follows the original route used by prospectors, miners and early settlers. This evening tap your toes and lick your fingers during the western dinner and show at Fort Hays.

This morning glimpse America as it was 300 years ago, a place revered by the American Indians and where wild horses still run free. Our adventure takes us to the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary. A special guide will educate us as we visit this unique facility. Special stops will be made for pictures of majestic stallions and mares with their foals. Still devoted to the area’s wildlife we make tracks for Bear Country USA, the largest private collection of black bear in the world. From the comfort of our coach, watch these clowns of nature climb trees, frolic in their pool and look back in amazement at us through the coach windows. A guide will accompany us on this 3-mile drive explaining the operation of the park.

Today we begin our journey eastward. During our travels we make a necessary stop at world-famous Wall Drug Store for a tall glass of ice water and last minute souvenirs. Lunch will be at Al’s Oasis, a legend in these here parts. Our final overnight stay will be in Fairmont, MN at the Holiday Inn Express.

We bid farewell to our traveling companions as we recall tales of the Black Hills & Wild Mustangs.
