Our drive today takes us into Illinois for our first stop where we dine at the Village Tavern, one of the oldest restaurants in Long Grove. After lunch, we tour the magnificent Victorian Sanfilippo Estate located in Barrington. This estate is the family home of the founders of Fischer Nuts.
After our 2018 trip was so successful, we are returning in 2021. Our three-hour tour is spent on the Estate Grounds which is a docent-led covering the 55,000 square-foot residence which includes the Main House, Arcade Room, Victorian Bar Room, American Orchestra Room and more. A new section has been added since our last tour with the Paris Passageway of the Jeffrey Sanfilippo Collection of Fragrance /Cologne Bottles. This is a great opportunity to view the opulent furnishings and learn about the fully restored Automated Music Machines, Tiffany Lamps, Victorian Chandeliers, 1881 Railroad Locomotive, Pullman Coach cars and so much more.
Also included, is the separate Carousel Pavilion where we view the 1890 Eden Palais Carousel, featuring 36 life-sized, hand carved horses. The highlight of the day will be in the Music Room, where we will enjoy a mini-concert on the world’s largest theater pipe organ, a 1927 Wurlitzer. Join us as we see the private treasures of the Sanfilippo family which includes restored relics of yesterday.
