DAY ONE — D
All Aboard! Lamers Tour & Travel has planned a special tour to experience what our customer’s love…scenic rail travel. Couple that with the beauty of New England’s fall color in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine and it can barely get any better! Today we travel to our first night accommodations at the Best Western Plus, Sandusky, OH with dinner included at a nearby local eatery.
DAY TWO — CB, D
Looking forward to getting further east, travels today take us into New York State with our usual rest and meal breaks. After time to refresh and relax at our hotel, the Fairfield Inn Utica, we will gather with our new friends for dinner.
DAY THREE — CB, D
After breakfast we’re rolling down the road again, but not too far. The Adirondack Scenic Train awaits nearby for our two hour ride through remote forests, past sparkling rivers, over bridges and tranquil ponds and into the magnificent beauty of Adirondack Park. Witness Mother Nature’s handiwork as you pass through, enroute to the town of Thendara.
Once you arrive, we once again board our motorcoach and travel a short distance to Old Forge, NY. Here you will have time to stroll into charming shops and enjoy lunch on your own. Later finds us traveling the shores of Lake Champlain to the city of Burlington, VT. The Holiday Inn Express is our host for the evening. Freshen up for dinner this evening.
DAY FOUR — CB, L, D
After breakfast, board the Spirit of Ethan Allen III for a leisurely, narrated cruise across the Lake Champlain. The captain will regale us with the region’s rich history, unique geologic formations and all about Champ, the lake’s resident monster!
Our motorcoach is waiting on the other side and we begin our travel into the Green Mountains and to the renowned Trapp Family Lodge. The Sound of Music resonates as you arrive at this old-world lodge, owned and operated by the von Trapp family. Dine on a delicious luncheon buffet while you enjoy the mountain views and fall color display.
Next up is everyone favorite. No ‘screaming for ice cream’ needed! We stop at Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory for a tour and tasting of Vermont’s finest. Just try to make a decision on which flavor to pick and the end of the tour! Vermont is synonymous with maple syrup so a visit to Morse Farm Sugarworks is a must. Tour the sugarhouse, sample maple syrup and visit a unique maple crafts and mail order shop. A traditional “sugar on snow party” will sweetly end your tour.
Rest your head in the Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, VT this evening.
DAY FIVE — CB, D
A memorable day here in the northeast is in store today and we begin with another train experience as we board the Conway Scenic Train. Enjoy the old-fashioned railroading experience as you journey on historic rail routes in vintage passenger cars most of which are from the 1920s. After your ride, you have time for lunch on your own in one of the many eateries that line the streets in North Conway, our railroad’s destination.
After lunch board a canopied pontoon boat and sail off into Squam Lake, the second largest lake in New Hampshire. It is also where the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond was filmed. Later today we have a glamorous attraction waiting. The lovely Café Lafayette Dinner Train takes us on a scenic two-hour ride along with a 5-course meal as we ride the rails like they did so many years ago. Sit back and enjoy this wonderful train. Our accommodations are the Town Place Suites.
DAY SIX — CB, L, D
Check out of the hotel after breakfast and head “downeast” to the coast of Maine which brings us to the popular summer resort town of Kennebunkport and the Seashore Trolley Museum. The museum houses one of the world’s largest collections of antique electric streetcars, numbering more than 200. Experience transportation of a bygone era with a trolley ride; then explore the shops, galleries and eateries at Dock Square. Later we continue to travel along the Atlantic shoreline and into cranberry country for a tour of a cranberry bog. As one of the largest producers of cranberries, learn more about the harvest and commerce of this important product.
DAY SEVEN — CB, L, D
Today we pack our bags and travel west to Scranton, PA where the Steamtown National Historic Site gives us inside on the history of steam railroad transportation. Learn about the people who built, repaired and rode the rails/ Feel the heat from the firebox, smell hot steam and oil and listen to the whistle blow. You can even feel the ground vibrate and watch as one-ton drive rids turn steel wheels. After you feel like a real railroader, board the resident train for a ride!
It’s a short drive into downtown Scranton and our beautiful luncheon. Originally a French Renaissance-style train station in 1908, the Radisson Lackawanna Station House Hotel still retains its nostalgic charm. Be sure to look around this historic building with its Tiffany stained-glass ceiling and marble columns. We head a bit south into the Lancaster, PA area for our next two night stay. Our Amish-style lodgings will be at the Country Inn as well as our dinner location in the hotel’s dining room.
