Lamers Bus Lines, Inc. school bus driver Richard

Ripon driver Richard found that when he retired from teaching, he missed spending his days with students. Not only does school bus driving keep you busy in retirement, it also keeps you young at heart!

“I taught elementary school (all grades, all subjects) for thirty-three years. When I couldn’t do that anymore I sold farm toys because I thought I’d see kids yet. Not so much, mostly it was toy collectors. But while doing that my wife saw the ad in the newspaper that Lamers would train. I knew that was it,” he says.

“Ed and Eric, manager and mechanic at Lamers in Ripon, went out of their way to help me become a school bus driver. I haven’t regretted it since. I love seeing the kids every day. Ed also has me doing quite a bit of charter work so I get to see the teams play as well. If I can’t teach, driving school bus is the next best thing.”
